YouTube stars Bria and Chrissy have had a busy year. Not only did they make the ranks of The Advocate's 40 Under 40 for their work as online role models for LGBT youth. The harmonious couple have also released their first music video, "Take You to Heaven," which is a bold celebration of love between two women.
The Advocate spoke with Bria and Chrissy about their debut music video, which they describe as a means to "help change hearts and minds."
The Advocate: What inspired the video, and why was it important that your first music video show a love story between two women?
Bria and Chrissy: We worked over a year to put our album out and then another year on top of that to do a music video. We wanted our first one to really bring the spirit of the song and the album to life as well as our love. Songs often show love and romance, but very rarely do we see a song showcasing real love between two women, and we think society is ready to embrace that.
What was your favorite moment from shooting the video?
B&C: Having a blank slate to start, literally it was a blank poster board, and drawing out exactly how we wanted the video to look and then traveling to these amazing places and making this fantasy come to life.
How will your mothers react when they see this video?
Chrissy: Our moms were so proud, and I think it helped put into perspective for them the impact we want to have on the world and how determined and capable we are of achieving our dream of being LGBT artists in the mainstream.
If only one person in the world could see this video, who would you want it to be?
B&C: Ellen, please!
If heaven were a place on earth, where would it be?
Chrissy: Riding horses in New Zealand on a beach with Angelina Jolie.
Bria: In a bed swarmed by dozens of Siamese cats wearing Hanukkah sweaters.
