In his opening monologue while hosting the iHeartRadio Music Awards on Sunday, Jamie Foxx put up a giant photo of Bruce Jenner and used transphobia to get laughs.

"We have some groundbreaking performances here, too, tonight," he said. "We got Bruce Jenner, will be here doing some musical performances. He's doing a his-and-her duet all by himself."

That wasn't the end of it.

"Look I'm just busting your balls," Foxx added from stage, "while I still can."

The joke sparked negative headlines all over entertainment media and was a huge dud on social media, which called out Foxx as transphobic. Perez Hilton tweeted, "Boo! Shame on you #iHeartAwards for allowing @iamjamiefoxx to be transphobic on national television! Those #BruceJenner jokes were wrong!!!"

Transgender entertainment commentator B. Scott described the joke as "inappropriate and offensive" in a blog post, noting that, "Bruce's daughter Kylie was in the audience -- we can imagine she didn't find it very funny."

Meanwhile, trans activists were gathered in Chicago for one of the biggest nights of the year for the annual Trans100, an event honoring the work of trans people in entertainment, politics and more.
