Stephen Schwartz is taking his songs to the high seas.
The legendary Broadway composer is debuting a new musical, Magic to Do, this fall on Princess Cruises. The show, which will be performed on the Crown Princess line, will incorporate a medley of hits from some of Schwartz's greatest productions, including Godspell, Wicked, and Pippin. A new song, written exclusively for Princess Cruises, will also be debuted.
"I'm excited about the possibility of using the enormous resources available with Princess to create new and innovative theatrical entertainment,"
Schwartz said in a statement. "Their onboard theatres are Broadway-caliber venues with state-of-the-art technical capability, and coupled with their access to first-rate performers, I see it as an extraordinary and almost irresistible opportunity."
"I have already received overwhelming and enthusiastic interest from talented colleagues - writers, directors, and designers to whom I have spoken - and I hope together we will create new kinds of cruise ship shows to entertain and inspire Princess guests unlike any other productions at sea," he concluded.
Magic to Do will be the first of four planned musicals by the Oscar winner to set sail on Princess Cruises over the next several years.
