Fed by the outrage of men's rights activists across the country, Alamo Drafthouse is at it again. In May, the movie chain drew national attention when it offered a women-only screening of Wonder Woman at its location in Austin. Angry men accused it of being sexist, calling for screenings of Thor, Star Wars, and other franchises with women prohibited from attending. NowAlamo is wiping up those male tears with a creepy, clown-like smile. The theater in Austin is offering a special screening of the upcoming Stephen King reboot It. There's just one rule: clowns only, reports Variety.
The event, which seems to be a strange yet inclusive sequel to the national controversy, will also have a "Barrel O' Fun" pre-party for moviegoers to work with face painters to perfect their creepy clown gaze. Raffles and giveaways will be featured as well.
Alamo Drafthouse is not new to quirky movie events. It once gave patrons gas masks and took them out in a school bus into a forest for the horror film It Comes at Night, and it screened one of the numerous Pirates of the Caribbean sequels on an actual boat. It also hosts a queer film series, titled Homo Arigato.
