Superstar and Puerto Rico native Ricky Martin appeared on Ellen Thursday to deliver a heartfelt plea for viewers to support the hurricane-devastated territory. "There is no water. There is no electricity. There is no food or medicine. There are no diesel generators that will make the hospital work. People are dying," Martin said, his voice cracking. "As a Puerto Rican, as an American that I am, I'm here to ask for your help."
This plea comes along with many Puerto Ricans asking for assistance. Many have criticized the federal government for not delivering aid quickly enough. Martin urged everyone to donate to the Hand in Hand Hurricane Relief Fund, which will be used to purchase water, food, baby formula, medicine, and blankets among other essentials. His father, who is ill, is currently unable to leave the island due to airport damage by Hurricane Maria.
Ellen also presented a $80,000 donation from General Mills to Martin for the relief fund. View the video below.
