There is no better way to break a woman's heart than to tell her you don't have Trump on collusion.
Kate McKinnon did double duty in Saturday Night Live's cold open this week reprising her portrayal of White House Special Council Robert Mueller while also playing him as "The Bachelor" in what might be the most difficult breakup ever. Cecily Strong plays Becca K., who's heartbroken over what McKinnon's sheepish Mueller has to say.
"So, uh, you know that I've been struggling a little bit over the last few months just trying to figure this whole thing out and just grasp everything," McKinnon's Mueller says. "The reality is I don't think I can give you everything that you want right now, and I think you sense that."
"So ... what? You don't have Trump on collusion?" Becca asks.
"I think I need to explore the possibility that I have a stronger case with some other stuff," Mueller replies. "I'm just trying to be honest with you in telling you I can't commit to collusion right now."
The sketch, which starts out slow but amps up to some darkly funny moments, depicts Strong's Becca increasingly in denial about the possibility that Donald Trump won't get indicted.
"I can't commit to collusion right now," Mueller says.
"This is so f*cking embarrassing. Collusion is literally the only thing I've been looking forward to this past year," Becca replies, burying her face in her hands.
After some time alone crying, Becca emerges from a locked room and asks, "So that's it? He's just going to be president?"
McKinnon's Mueller has even worse news from there.
