The Australian-based singer, DJ, artist, and proud LGBTQ+ community member Tanzer has released her latest single called "Fantasy" on Monday. Along with the disco-tinged track, a new music video featuring a sci-fi heartbreak epic and an ode to doomed love also dropped.
"In the music video, directed by Alex Smith, Tanzer urges her toxic lover to abandon all logic and reason for one more sip of poison before their inevitable demise," said a news release.
To emphasize the disco inspiration, the music video was shot with tube-based cameras from the late '70s. It also drew inspiration from the retro-futuristic camp featured in Barbarella, Cicciolina's '80s TV performances, and the promotional videos of spiritual group Unarius Academy Of Science.
"I am, in fact, a Gemini, and relished the chance to show off my range as both a split personality and master of disguise in this video," said Tanzer. Throughout the video, the artist portrays several characters including hard-working drones, a giant golden space creature, and a "lusty" space leader.
Besides "Fantasy," Tanzer also has announced her upcoming mini-album Disco Automatic, which will come out on April 22, 2022. The mini-album will feature six songs, showcasing "Tanzer's multi-hyphenate abilities in all of its disco, pop, operatic majesty."
Disco Automatic will include some previously released tracks including "Deep Fried Disco," which serves as a love letter to ABBA, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and 1980s Eurovision. It'll also include the previously released track "Tango," which is described as "a bizarre, funky disco banger featuring lyrics in English and shabby Australian-Italian."
