Phoebe Bridgers has opened up about her personal experience with abortion, following the leak of a draft Supreme Court decision indicating that the majority right-wing court is on the verge of rolling back Roe v. Wade.
In an Instagram story, Bridgers wrote, "I had an abortion in October of last year while I was on tour. I went to Planned Parenthood where they gave me the abortion pill. It was easy. Everyone deserves that kind of access."
She also included a link to "a big list of places you can donate to right now" to help fund abortions for women in states that have restricted access to that form of health care.
She shared the same story on her Twitter account.
This isn't the first time that the out "Kyoto" singer has been outspoken on abortion rights. Bridgers previously released a cover of Bo Burnham's "That Funny Feeling" on Bandcamp with the proceeds going to Texas Abortion Funds, following the state's governor, Greg Abbott, signing a bill into law that banned abortions there after six weeks of pregnancy.
Bridgers joined the voices of many celebrities who spoke out against the Supreme Court's draft decision on social media.
Actor Josh Gad tweeted his anger and his commitment to fighting to protect abortion rights. "Make no mistake. A majority in this country are angry tonight. Not a small majority. A giant majority. I am seeing that rage. I am hearing that rage. I am feeling that rage. And to all scared women tonight, I will fight for you & with you. I will fight like hell. We all must," he wrote.
Sara Bareilles shared that sense of outrage. "Once more for the people in the back: WOMEN DON'T GET PREGNANT BY THEMSELVES! Why is there zero sense of shared responsibility?! It's pathetic, and I stand with the masses of you who are enraged and want to fight back. Hand me my armor. #BansOffOurBodies," she wrote.
"#SCOTUS has revealed itself to be just another political tool, as the three new unabashedly biased conservatives plus the old push the court to undermine women's rights. Shameful. They will never recover from this; it's right up there with #DredScott and #PlessyVFerguson," added Bette Midler.
