Out Canadian actor Luke Macfarlane has revealed some details about the gay sex scenes in his upcoming movie Bros.
The film, co-written by and costarring Billy Eichner, is the first queer romantic comedy to be backed by a major Hollywood studio.
Macfarlane, 42, plays Eichner's love interest in the movie. In a recent interview with Variety, Macfarlane revealed the mechanics of setting the scenes up and which of the potential scenes he handily rejected.

Variety describes Macfarlane's character Aaron in Bros as "a 'straight-acting and -appearing' attorney with serious commitment issues," adding "[MacFarlane] spends most of his screen time shirtless or in a T-shirt."
The several sex scenes in the film were choreographed by a queer intimacy coordinator, according to the magazine. They were also discussed prior to filming.
MacFarlane said there was one idea that he plain out rejected with Eichner.
"I think there was a moment when Billy was like, 'Should we spit on each other?'" Macfarlane told Variety. "I was like, 'Nope.'"
That scene would have taken place after a play wrestling match between Eichner's and Macfarlane's characters ends in sex.
As The Advocate's sibling publication Out put it, "So in between dates in Central Park's Sheep Meadow and meeting the parents, Bobby and Aaron navigate queer-specific rituals of dating apps and group sex. They also contend with generation-specific issues related to gay men in their 40s, who came of age after the height of the AIDS pandemic with little positive media representation. There's a lot of baggage to unpack related to masculinity, intimacy, and life's meaning."
Bros doesn't shy away from the sex at all, and especially the gay sex.
"I love the idea of making the sex scenes both funny and absurd, but also very sweet and romantic," Eichner told Out. "Because sex can be all of those things.... I think it's important, especially in the world we live in to...remove the stigma from all of this stuff around two guys hooking up. What the f**k is the big deal? It's been happening literally since the beginning of time. We just weren't allowed to show it."
