Edibly beautiful, Chris von Steiner's colorful paintings, both vector and digital, repeatedly allude to the sweet menace that imperils innocence. Born in France in 1965, art director, graphic designer, writer, and digital artist Chris von Steiner (a.k.a. Christophe Austruy) currently lives in Brussels, Belgium. After several years of working in advertising in Paris, he has published two novels in France: Un panda dans l'escalier (H&O Editions/2001), Je veux te voir nu (H&O Editions/2002), and one in the USA : Switch, in Userlands (Akashic Books/2007), a collection assembled by Dennis Cooper for his "Little House on the Bowery" series.
Of his work he states, "I like the idea of people being confused about my works, and I have to admit that some of them are still like dreams to me: They hide in themselves their very own secrets and logic."
In his new series of works titled "I Wanna Be Adored," Chris von Steiner shares his view of these hidden dreams, sometimes in a quite self-referential way, including some themes and symbols taken from his previous series of works. The Black Fawn (Oslo, Norway) will the first space to host "I Wanna Be Adored," May 8 through 18.
For more work and more information, see his website and his Facebook page.
