Greg Day and Mark Harvey show the theatrical, ecclesiastical side of activism with their historic images of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in a new exhibit.
This exhibit brings together two artists whose work with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence spans over three decades. Greg Day's photos feature the first Mother House of San Francisco during its formative years of queer spirituality and activism. Mark Harvey's portraits of the Los Angeles Sisters from the late '90s to the present focus on capturing the mystique of individual personalities.
This exhibit is part of "Manifesting Destiny," a larger project that aims to highlight the rich history and cultural influence of the Sisters, whose many chapters can be found today across the globe spreading joy and ridding guilt for their LGBT flock.
