A Nightmare On Elm Street -- Oscar nominee Jackie Earle Haley slips into Freddy Krueger's slasher glove for a "reimagining" of A Nightmare on Elm Street. The new version stars a who's who of attractive young Hollywood stars, including Melrose Place's Katie Cassidy, Twilight's Kellan Lutz, and The Sarah Connor Chronicles' Thomas Dekker.
Please Give -- Gay favorite Catherine Keener is a dissatisfied and bored upper-class Manhattan wife in Nicole Holofcener's new drama, Please Give. The film, which also stars Rebecca Hall and Amanda Peet, is getting raves from critics, and fans of Holofcener's previous films Friends With Money and Lovely & Amazing (both starring Keener) are likely to love this one too.
In My Sleep -- Picture-perfect Abercrombie & Fitch-looking actor Philip Winchester plays a man suffering from parasomnia -- a rare sleepwalking disorder in which you remember nothing the next morning ... including, in the case of In My Sleep, murder. Mean Girls' Lacey Chabert and Sordid Lives star Beth Grant costar in this tense and sexy psychological thriller.
Music
Court Yard Hounds by Court Yard Hounds -- Taking a break from the Dixie Chicks, sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robison (also known as the two who support gay rights, don't much care for George W., but managed not to come under the same fire from country music fans as their band mate Natalie Maines) formed the Court Yard Hounds and will release their debut album Tuesday. And even though Maines doesn't join them on this venture, it's still a Dixie Chicks affair. Maines's dad joins them on guitar, and the album was recorded in Maines's home studio.
My Dear One by The Shondes -- This "queercore" group from Brooklyn is back with a second album, called a "lonely hearts epic" by The Village Voice. This group's music combines gay and Jewish sensibilities (does it get any better?) and tackles the political and the personal with heart and rock 'n' roll.
DVDs
Greek Pete -- All Pete, a young gay man in London, wants is a nice flat, a working laptop, and some sexy head shots so he can get ahead as an escort. This documentary blurs the line between fact and fiction as it offers a fairly explicit peek into a world that's usually hidden from view.
I Love Lucy: The Movie -- This little-known feature-length re-edit of three episodes of the classic sitcom along with new connecting footage was only shown publicly once in 1953 before being scrapped by Lucy and Desi. Of particular interest to fans is an episode of the iconic black-and-white series that was filmed in color and included here, in addition to rare footage of the cast at the 1953 Emmy Awards ceremony.
It's Complicated -- Fans of Meryl Streep (is there anyone who isn't?) will enjoy watching the great star get a comedic workout as a harried bakery owner who finds herself caught in a torrid love triangle between her ex-husband (Alec Baldwin, hilarious and frequently nude) and her architect (Steve Martin).
