Same-sex smooches and Ian McKellen to vie for MTV Movie Awards

Nominations for the 2002 MTV Movie Awards were announced, and once again same-gender lip locks made it into the Best Kiss category--one male-male (Jason Biggs and Seann William Scott in American Pie 2) and one female-female (Mia Kirshner and Beverly Polcyn in Not Another Teen Movie). Also in the running for the large-popcorn-shaped trophy is out actor Sir Ian McKellen (nominated alongside Christopher Lee for Best Fight in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring) and the film Legally Blonde, from out director Robert Luketic, in several categories. MTV viewers can vote for the awards by telephone and online. The awards will be distributed June 1 at Los Angeles's Shrine Auditorium, and the show will be broadcast on MTV on June 6.
