Hairspray writers create new stage vehicle for Martin Short
Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the openly gay Tony-winning duo who wrote Broadway's Hairspray, have put together a new show called If I'd Saved, I Wouldn't Be Here for Martin Short, reports Playbill.com. The "one-man show with cast" will have a two-week run in Boston this fall before traveling to Broadway in spring 2006. Short will play a number of characters--including his legendary Ed Grimley and Jiminy Glick identities--with a supporting cast of four. "What do you call a one-man show that has four people helping out?" Shaiman told Playbill.com. "They play the other million characters. Marty can only play a billion characters."
