TV Guide reports that openly gay Avenue Q star John Tartaglia will star in Johnny and the Sprites for the Disney Channel. The "musical fantasy series," which was created specifically as a vehicle for Tartaglia, will premiere sometime in 2006. Tartaglia created the show with Michael Schupback, Daryl Watson, Jill Cluckson, and Louise Gukow, and he will star as himself as well as three puppet characters. The Tony-nominated performer is also expected to reprise his roles as Rod and Princeton when Avenue Q opens in Las Vegas.
