Punk rock icon
Randy "Biscuit" Turner was found dead Thursday in his
home in Austin, Tex., reports the Austin
American-Statesman. A spokesperson from Turner's
label says the singer was 56. Turner, the front man
for pioneering punk band the Big Boys, was one of a few
openly gay figures in punk rock, deliberately toying
with gender in his stage act and standing up to
homophobic attitudes among rival bands. The Big Boys
lasted from 1978 to 1984 and were known for their explosive
live shows; some cite the band as a precursor to later
funk-punk combos as the Red Hot Chili Peppers and
Fishbone. Police investigators did not release details
regarding Turner's death, but a police spokesperson said it
was not being considered a suspicious death.
