V103, an urban
Chicago radio station, in an interview with singer
Jody Watley would not allow her to discuss her live
performance at this year's Gay Games. Watley performed
on July 15 in Soldier Field for the opening ceremony.
The disc jockey
for the morning show was given instructions from the
station manager that Watley was not to discuss her
performance at the Games. Instead she talked only
about her in-store appearance at the local Virgin
Megastore. Watley reported to Keith Boykin on his site keithboykin.com, "I was surprised, but I
wasn't really surprised." The singer had come from a "pop"
radio station earlier in the morning and reportedly talked
only about her Games performance. Watley goes on
to say, "It just reaffirms a narrow-mindedness
and a close-mindedness that I think is very
unfortunate." (The Advocate)
