New Regency Pictures' big-screen adaptation of the popular CBS soap Dallas, which ran from 1978 to 1991, has been put on hold in order to assemble a new cast. John Travolta, who is still slated to re-create the role of patriarch J.R. Ewing, is the only cast member still attached to the project, which was supposed to start shooting in November. Director Gurinder Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham) is also still on board, yet it is unclear whether she will continue to be.

Stars previously attached to the project include Luke Wilson as Bobby Ewing, Shirley MacLaine as Miss Ellie, and Jennifer Lopez as Sue Ellen. Gay director Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde) was originally attached before Chadha took over.

While the studio hopes to recast the film by January, it remains to be seen whether a series that went off the air 15 years ago (and whose heyday was closer to 25 years ago) will stir much interest in younger audiences. (The Advocate)
