Transgender star
Alexis Arquette has chastised Neil Patrick Harris and
T.R. Knight, two celebrities who recently came out as
gay, for their unwillingness to speak about their
sexuality at a gay fund-raiser.
According to
USA Today, Harris and Knight avoided the press
after attending an event for the Los Angeles
suicide prevention hotline organization the Trevor
Project. Harris said that he was advised by his PR
firm not to be too vocal about his recent coming-out.
"People like that
are weak; it's pathetic," Arquette said in
response.
Arquette's sister
Patricia said that she understands the two men's
decisions not to come out to the press so readily.
"It's never easy
to come out," she said. "It's a very brave thing. I
was terrified for Alexis, with all the cruelty in the world,
that he would be taunted, teased, or beaten." (The
