Award-winning actress Christine Lahti has been cast in Wendy Wasserstein's final play, Third, which will make its West Coast premiere at L.A.'s Geffen Playhouse this fall, the Geffen announced today.

Lahti will play Laurie Jameson, a professor at a prestigious university in New England who makes a rash assumption about one of her jock students. When the student writes a brilliant paper, she accuses him of plagiarism and reveals her own prejudices. Third is set during the months around the U.S. launch of the war in Iraq and exposes hypocrisy in an unlikely source--a modern, female, politically correct professor.

Lahti has worked on previous Wasserstein projects. She portrayed Heidi Holland on Broadway for the Pulitzer Prize-winning play The Heidi Chronicles. She also starred on Lifetime's An American Daughter, which was based on Wasserstein's play.

Single tickets for the show go on sale July 1. For more information visit www.GeffenPlayhouse.com. (The Advocate)
