Laguna Beach,
Calif., gay bar the Boom Boom Room, on the brink of being
shut down, is turning to celebrity do-gooders Brad Pitt and
George Clooney for help. SavetheBoom.com has issued
an appeal for financial assistance from the
actors, who were incorrectly identified as
co-investors with the company that bought the property
in 2005.
"Both of you are
true leaders in human and civil rights," the Web site
reads. "Over 100 years of gay history that the Boom
represents is at stake in Laguna Beach."
The actual owner
of the club, Emerald Financial LLC, intended to turn the
property into an oceanfront boutique hotel, but
those plans were scrapped. Now what is described
as the second-oldest gay bar in the Western United
States is back on the market, though it is
scheduled to stay operational through September. Emerald
Financial, owned by Beverly Hills billionaire Steven
Udvar-Hazy, purchased the Coast Inn and the Boom Boom
Room for $13 million. (The Advocate)
