Gloria Gaynor,
the singer of the disco classic and gay anthem "I Will
Survive," made remarks on a U.K. radio show July
13 that many listeners considered
homophobic, according to the U.K.'s PinkNews online.
Though Gaynor, a devout Christian, eschewed answering Radio
4 host Jane Little's question of whether she
considered homosexuality wrong, the 57-year-old did
invoke spiritual beliefs in explaining her feelings
about gay audiences.
"I want to lead
them to Christ," Gaynor said in the interview,
according to the article. "I want to lead them to him. I
want to lead them to truth."
When Little asked
directly if Gaynor saw homosexuality as "sinful,"
Gaynor replied, "I want to lead them to Christ,
simply, and whatever he has for them."
Gaynor is
currently touring the U.K. Her Billboard hits include
"I Will Survive," "Never Can Say Goodbye," and "I Am
What I Am."
