The queen of pop
-- along with the Beastie Boys, Donna Summer, and John
Mellencamp -- may soon be part of the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame.
While some
grumbled at dance-pop acts like Madonna and Summer being
included as nominees for the rock institution, many see them
as shoo-ins. Performers and acts become eligible for
induction 25 years after their first single is
released. Nominees are selected by historians, and
inductees are picked by approximately 500 performers,
producers, music executives, and journalists.
Other nominees
include hip-hopper Afrika Bambaataa and singer-songwriter
Leonard Cohen. Five inductees will be welcomed into the Hall
of Fame on March 10 in New York. (The Advocate)
