For the second
year in a row, Here networks will team up with the Academy
of Television Arts and Sciences and the
academy's community service committee, Television
Cares, to tape the 11th Annual Ribbon of Hope
Celebration for and broadcast. The December 1 event, to be
held at the Television Academy's Leonard Goldenson
Theatre, will be edited for later broadcast (free
of charge for viewers) on Here's cable, satellite, and
broadband outlets.
The Ribbon of
Hope Celebration honors media companies, programs,
producers, and individuals whose personal and professional
commitment continues to keep HIV/AIDS awareness in the
forefront. Originally named after the iconic red
ribbon that has become the global symbol in the fight
against AIDS, the annual Ribbon of Hope Celebration will be
celebrating its 11th anniversary this year. Previous
HIV/AIDS program honorees include 60 Minutes II,
20/20, Hallmark Hall of Fame's The Blackwater
Lightship, ER, Everwood, Sex and the City, The
West Wing, and the HBO film Angels in America.
This year Ribbon
of Hope will present a Special Achievement Award to the
groundbreaking series In the Life for 15 years
of excellence in documenting the HIV pandemic. In
addition, honors will be bestowed upon HBO for the
acclaimed film Life Support; BET, in association with
the Kaiser Family Foundation, for 106 & Park:
World AIDS Day Special; Lifetime for Girl,
Positive; TLC for Ashley Judd &
YouthAIDS; Showtime for 3 Needles; and Here
Networks here! Focus on HIV/AIDS.
"The significance
of the Ribbon of Hope taking place on World AIDS Day
once again presents an important opportunity to renew
awareness while addressing the complacency that
currently hampers HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and
treatment efforts around the world," said Paul
Colichman, founder and CEO of Here Networks. "In that vein,
Here is honored to be partnering with the Television
Academy once again on this important event, and
thrilled to be able to make this celebration available
to Here's nationwide audience and the global online
community." (The Advocate)
