Charles Isherwood, Michelle Tea, and Jennifer Baumgardner are some of the authors up for consideration at this year's Lambda Literary Awards. The organization will choose winners in 21 categories from 463 nominees, a record for the LGBT book awards, according to a statement released on Thursday.
Nearly 200 publishers -- a 29% increase from last year's pool -- participated in the nomination process, which awards books in such categories as fiction, nonfiction, poetry, memoir/biography, and children/young adult. The number of entries this year was up 22%, from 381 to 463, according to the group's executive director, Charles Flowers.
Lambda Legal will present the 20th annual Lammys at a gala in West Hollywood this May.
