Sultry lesbian drama The L Word will bring its lipstick traces back to premium cable network Showtime next year, reincarnated as a reality series focusing on the lives of six lesbians in Los Angeles.

Showtime gave the green light to nine episodes of The Real L Word: Los Angeles, according to Variety.com. Ilene Chaiken, the creator of The L Word, will serve as executive producer of the new reality show, along with Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz of reality television producers Magical Elves, the company behind Bravo's Top Chef.

The L Word, which premiered in 2004 to acclaim for its groundbreaking portrayals of lesbian lives, concluded its sixth and final season on Showtime earlier this year. The reality version of the program is scheduled to debut sometime in 2010, pending the outcome of casting.
