The father of Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson called it tough to live through the experience of his son's use of antigay slurs.

Larry Johnson Sr. told The Kansas City Starthat his son and other children were raised to treat people with compassion and consider everyone equal, regardless of sexual orientation.

"That's just not who we are and not what we believe," Johnson, 56, told the Star. "It's not how he was raised."

The younger Johnson was suspended for two weeks for his recent use of antigay slurs toward a fan on Twitter and in the locker room against journalists. He plans to appeal the suspension.
