Syed Masood, a closeted gay Muslim character on the popular British soap opera EastEnders, will be outed in an episode set to air on New Year's Day.
According to PinkNews, which reported the story from Inside Soap, the action will transpire as Syed, played by actor Marc Elliot, prepares to marry a woman, Amira Shah.
Syed's mother, Zainab, reportedly will spot him talking with an openly gay character, Christian, and assume that the latter has propositioned her son. When Zainab confronts Christian, he will tell her all about Syed.
"So when she catches up with Syed, he's forced to admit everything Christian said is true. She can see it all in Syed's eyes - it's a massive shock for her," Elliot told Inside Soap.
The episode, in which Zainab insists that Syed proceed with his marriage to Amira, will air on BBC 1 on January 1.
