Actor and former teen idol Corey Haim has died at age 38 of an apparent accidental overdose. He starred in '80s films such as Lucas and The Lost Boys, which was directed by out filmmaker Joel Schumacher.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed Haim's death to KTLA Wednesday morning.

"Haim died at 3:30 A.M. Wednesday of an apparent accidental overdose, according to the LAPD's North Hollywood Division," reported KTLA.

"Haim was found unresponsive inside an Oakwood apartment, between Burbank and the Hollywood Hills, police said. His mother was at the home at the time."

An autopsy will be performed to determine the official cause of death.

Haim, who was born in Canada, had struggled with drug addiction. He and fellow '80s star and frequent co-star Corey Feldman saw their fame fizzle in the early '90s. The two attempted to cross over to serious adult fare with the little seen 1992 indie Blown Away, in which the actors shocked fans in a threesome scene with Baywatch star Nicole Eggert.

Haim and Feldman attempted to stage a comeback with the A&E reality show The Two Coreys last year.
