Dolphins GM to Bryant: Is Your Mom a Prostitute?

During a pre-draft interview several weeks ago, Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland asked former Oklahoma State receiver Dez Bryant if his mother was ever a prostitute. Angela Bryant is a lesbian, a fact that received attention last week when the Dallas Cowboys drafted her son.

According to the Associated Press, Ireland called Bryant to apologize after Yahoo! Sports reported that he asked the player the question. An NFL statement said Ireland "exercised poor judgment" with the inquiry, while the players' union said it raised concerns about discrimination and degradation. Bryant is African-American and Ireland is white.

It is unclear whether Ireland knew that Bryant's mother is a lesbian when he asked the question, although the AP reports that the player's background "received extensive scrutiny" during the NFL draft.

Byrant accepted Ireland's apology but acknowledged the incident angered him. He spoke about his mother's sexual orientation with TheDallas Morning News last week. He said that he still does not like the fact that she is a lesbian, but he has learned to live with it.
