News that actor-singer-songwriter Darren Criss has joined Glee as a new gay character is sparking speculation about whether he will play Kurt's first boyfriend.
According to Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly, "Per a Glee source, Criss's character, Blaine -- a cute and charismatic gay student from a rival glee club named the Dalton Academy Warblers -- will maintain a strictly platonic friendship with McKinley High's most out and proud pupil. But could that change as the season progresses? Yes, it could."
Other characters in the running to be Kurt's boyfriend on the Fox series have included Sam, the quarterback played by Chord Overstreet, but Ausiello reports that all options remain on the table.
TV audiences may know Criss from his role as Josh on Eastwick. The University of Michigan graduate starred in a viral Harry Potter spoof called A Very Potter Musical from theater company Team StarKid.
