10. DVD: Magic Trip
In 1964, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest author Ken Kesey embarked on a legendary, LSD-fueled road trip with the "Merry Pranksters," a psychedelic posse that included bisexual Beat icon Neal Cassady as the bus driver. That journey was captured on 16-millimeter film that stayed mostly unseen until filmmakers Alex Gibney and Alison Ellwood shaped 100 hours of footage into this cool documentary, which is now on DVD.
9. TV: Color Splash
Debuting November 5, season 10 of out Design Star winner David Bromstad's HGTV home design series returns to Miami for more eye-popping makeovers. Inspired by the forest scenery -- and special guest Nikki Reed -- Bromstad decorates a house's first floor based on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn in the premiere episode, and upcoming episodes include makeovers inspired by the Miami Seaquarium and the North Pole.
8. FILM: A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas
Replacing the quest for White Castle burgers with the hunt for the perfect Christmas tree, John Cho and Kal Penn's stoner-slacker comedy franchise returns for a merrily messy third installment with power couple Neil Patrick Harris (pictured) and David Burtka as sexually fictionalized versions of themselves. The totally excellent adventure's highlights -- pun intended -- include a Claymation hallucination and a big musical number led by Harris.
7. DVD: Go Go Crazy and Go Go Reject
As sexy as it is silly, Fred M. Caruso's follow-up to The Big Gay Musical is an abs-busting mockumentary that does for go-go contests what Drop Dead Gorgeous did for pageants. Hedda Lettuce hosts the fictional Philly competition, which is stuffed with shameless Speedo-clad stereotypes. Writer-star Heath Daniels is also a hoot as a twink fulfilling a Flashdance fantasy in Go Go Reject, a sassy short directed by Michael J. Saul.
6. DVD: The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls
Let Leanne Pooley's immensely entertaining documentary -- out November 8 on DVD -- introduce you to lesbian twin sisters Jools and Lynda Topp, a yodeling comedy duo from New Zealand. "On paper they should be commercial death," says writer Paul Horan, "but they totally deliver to the audience." The progressive political activists, who both live together with their girlfriends, have male alter egos and often sing about being gay.
5. BOOK: Cruising
Photographer Chad States goes deep into the woods and parks of the Pacific Northwest, Pennsylvania, and New York to expose, celebrate, and even romanticize the art of cruising, that time-honored prowl for casual sexual encounters, in his voyeuristic coffee-table book. Featuring text by Gordon Brent Ingram, Ph.D and Alec Soth, this X-rated Where's Waldo? obscures these forbidden fantasies with enticing distance and foliage.
4. THEATER: Little House on the Ferry
A hot young cast spices up Rob Gould and Jeremy Wechter's new musical about gay men weekending in a share house on the infamous gay vacation mecca of Fire Island. Running through November 20 at New York's American Theater of Actors, the show also stars gay porn icon and pop singer Colton Ford. For tickets -- and a free download of the infectious theme song "We're on Fire Island" -- visit littlehouseontheferry.com.
3. THEATER: Jerker
The 25th anniversary production of Robert Chesley's Jerker, or the Helping Hand: A Pornographic Elegy with Redeeming Social Value and a Hymn to the Queer Men of San Francisco in Twenty Phone Calls, Many of them Dirty opens November 4 at Hollywood's Space 916. Addressing the stigma of "gay cancer," the landmark play traces the romance between a disabled Vietnam vet and a businessman. For tickets visit jerker25.com.
2. TV: Bad Sex
Premiering November 4 on Logo, this docu-series focuses on the treatment and progress of various men -- and some straight girls, because that's how Logo rolls -- participating in a two-month sex therapy group led by out specialist Christopher Donaghue (pictured). His clients' deep-rooted, self-destructive issues include dangerous promiscuity, clinical frigidity, porn addiction, and compulsive public sex. For more info visit logotv.com.
1. THEATER: Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays
Directed by Stuart Ross at off-Broadway's Minetta Lane Theatre, Harriet Harris and Mark Consuelos (pictured) are among the rotating celebrities reading gay-themed vignettes by acclaimed playwrights, but the November 7 start date shares the spotlight with over 40 venues, including the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. A portion of ticket sales will benefit marriage equality organizations. For more info visit standingonceremony.net.
