Rick Santorum referred to the film industry as "the devil's playground" in an attempt to drum up support for the latest motion picture, The Christmas Candle, produced by his new faith-based movie studio EchoLight, reports Right Wing Watch.

"This is a tough business, this is something that we're stepping out ... and the devil, for a long, long time, has had this, these screens, for his playground. And he isn't going to give it up easily," the former senator and GOP presidential candidate told the Christian-oriented Trinity Broadcasting Network. "And so I ask for your prayers for me, for our company, for TBN, for all of those who are involved in The Christmas candle. And we just want to thank you in advance for everything that you're going to do to help in making this a successful venture."

Santorum joined EchoLight Studios as the faith-based company's CEO in June and claimed at the time the studio's goal was to finance, produce and distribute family friendly movies. "I don't want to preach to anybody, I just want to portray faith as it really is, and we're going to be telling a lot of true-life stories, and we're going to make them comfortable even for people who are not of faith, because they are honest," Santorum said. "That's the challenge for us, and it's what Hollywood tends to shy away from."

However, it now appears Santorum has changed his tune and is directly attacking Hollywood in hopes of gaining support for his fledgling film studio, leading his followers to believe they can help fight the Devil by purchasing tickets to The Christmas Candle.
