Actors Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch are being eyed for the starring role in the upcoming Dr. Strange feature film, reports Deadline.

Both Hardy and Cumberbatch have their fair share of geek cred, as Hardy terrorized Gotham and Batman as Bane, while Cumberbatch has done triple geek duty as Khan in last summer's Star Trek Into Darkness, Sherlock Holmes in the BBC show of the same name..

"By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth," as the good doctor himself often proclaims, we moviegoers are in for a treat if either actor is cast in the role. Both Hardy and Cumberbatch are not only easy on the eyes but also talented actors who bring depth and humanity to every role they play.

Created in 1963 by the legendary writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, Dr. Strange was a brilliant and arrogant neurosurgeon who, after a car accident that leaves him unable to use his hands as a physician, turns to the magical arts to reinvent himself and become the Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel Comics universe.

Since his debut, Dr. Strange has starred in a number of popular solo series and been a member of both the Defenders and the Avengers. The character's name was also recently mentioned during a scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but this could mark his first live action appearance in Marvel's shared cinematic universe - assuming he doesn't have a make a cameo in any of the upcoming films featuring the popular comic book publisher's cast of characters. Dr. Strange has also appeared in various Marvel animated series throughout the years.
