To Be Takei, the award-winning documentary on the life of LGBT and Star Trek icon George Takei, is beaming down to a theater near you. The film has set a course for a limited theatrical release beginning today, and is now available on VOD and iTunes as well. From the days he spent with his family in an internment camp for Japanese-Americans during World War II to his groundbreaking role as Sulu on Star Trek and his rise as an pop culture and LGBT icon, the film gives fans an unprecedented view of his life and shows what it really means To Be Takei. -- Jase Peeples

9. MUSIC: The Prince of April, Justin Mortelliti
The Prince of April, the new EP from singer Justin Mortelliti, serves up a fresh offering of tracks that rush through the speakers like the musical equivalent of a midday summer breeze. The collection's lead single, "My Silver," is light, airy, and optimistic, as Mortelliti sings of the yearning to be with someone who was "just passing through," but obviously both were meant for a more meaningful relationship. 8. TV: True Blood Series Finale
After seven seasons, it's finally time to say goodbye to the vampires, fairies, vampire-fairies, werewolves, werepanthers, shifters, witches, maenads, demons, ghosts, and (occasional) humans of Bon Temps. This Sunday marks the true death of True Blood and, perhaps, an end to the many questions still left unanswered. 6. FILM: See You Next Tuesday
Out writer-director Drew Tobia, whose short films have become a cult sensation via festivals, TV, and the Internet, makes his feature debut with this dark and quirky comedy, offering what the movie's website calls "a tapestry of diverse characters with varying levels of sanity and awful taste in wardrobe" under a double entendre title. Young pregnant woman Mona, who's losing touch with reality, has a strangely close bond with her campy mother, May. Meanwhile, May's estranged from her other daughter, hard-partying lesbian Jordan, who in turn is increasingly alienating her girlfriend, Sylve. The film's premiere theatrical run begins today at Cinema Village in New York City; there'll be a Q&A and party after the 7:20 show tonight. It will also be available for streaming on Amazon and iTunes Tuesday and out on DVD September 23. View the trailer below. -- Trudy Ring

5. COMICS: The Multiversity
Visionary writer Grant Morrison combines his storytelling powers with the work of superstar artists Ivan Reis and Joe Prado for the latest cosmos-spanning epic from DC Comics, The Multiversity. The nine-issue miniseries features unforgettable characters from 52 alternative Earths in the DC university, including the Justice League of Earth-23, which boasts a black Superman (who is also the president of the United States on that Earth as well as the leader of the League), a gay speedster named Red Racer, and the aboriginal Australian powerhouse Thunderer among its members. The League of Earth-23's story will serve as bookends to six complete adventures in different parallel universes as the heroes from dimensions near and far battle one of the biggest threats the multiverse has ever known. -- Jase Peeples

4. MUSIC: "Happy Little Pill," Troye Sivan
The South African-born Australian vlogger-actor-singer with coiffed hair and a big voice embodies everything we know and believe about millennials with his soaring new single, "Happy Little Pill." Much like Lorde's "Royals," Sivan's tune offers snapshots of the things that bring instant gratification to young people, but delivers the words with an underlying swirl of sadness and caution. "Happy Little Pill" represents the overstimulated experience of this new generation, dealing with issues such as consumerism, relationships, and sexuality, all packaged in an emotional and thoughtful pop song. -- Scott Ragan

3. FILM: Love Is Strange
John Lithgow and Alfred Molina play a long-term couple in a story that could come from today's headlines. George (Molina), a teacher at a Catholic school, gets fired after he marries partner Ben (Lithgow). The couple's loss of income means they have to sell their New York co-op apartment and split up temporarily, living with friends and family while they search for affordable housing. Directed and cowritten by Ira Sachs, it's a heartrending drama leavened with bits of comedy, and the leads are superb, as is a supporting cast led by Marisa Tomei. "It's a beautiful handling of an important subject," says Lithgow, who spoke to The Advocate along with Molina and Sachs. The Moonman lands in Southern California this Sunday for the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. 1. EVENT: The 66th Primetime Emmys
The Television Academy honors the small screen's best at the ceremony Monday, and there are plenty of LGBT-inclusive projects, out artists, and gay faves to root for, such as The Normal Heart and gay cast members Matt Bomer and Joe Mantello, The Big Bang Theory and star Jim Parsons, Modern Family and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Orange Is the New Black, Game of Thrones, and more. Seth Meyers hosts the ceremony, which NBC will broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. Eastern/5 p.m. Pacific, and Billy Crystal will appear for a tribute to Robin Williams. -- Trudy Ring
