Joel Kim Booster and Cheyenne Jackson Champion Equality at HRC Dinner

They're not afraid.

Joel Kim Booster and Cheyenne Jackson were just a couple of the stars that attended the Human Rights Campaign Dinner in Los Angeles over the weekend.

With a ton of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation sweeping the nation, it's more vital than ever for LGBTQ+ stars to use their voices and stand up against bigotry.

Cheyenne Jackson and husband Jason Landau have two young children. As devoted gay fathers, the couple is finding the proper balance on how much they teach their kids about the homophobia happening in real-time.

"We have six-year-old kids and we come from a very honest place in our family. I want to tell the kids the truth about what's happening in the world and we can't let them know everything. However, it pains our heart to know what we know and that they don't know. It's sometimes even harder. We know that they will find out one day. They will find out what we went through. The fight is really beginning again," Landau tells The Advocate.

"You try and shield them from as much as you can, but they live in the world. They're going to figure out things. We were just in Nashville a couple of months ago and just look what's happened in the last two weeks. It's just absolutely ass backwards," Jackson says.

The Human Rights Campaign Dinner is just one of the recent events that has served as a call to action to stand up for LGBTQ+ rights.

"Events like this, especially with what's going on in the country right now... it's like, do I really want to go to a party right now? At the same time [and] on the same token, they want us to hide. They want us to feel down. They want us to feel broken down. Nights like this, it's a real moment of solidarity for our community," Boosters tells The Advocate.

Although the current political climate may scare or worry many people, Booster has a positive message to share while the community unites.

"We're a coalition. That's what we've always been. We come together to fight. This event is a real symbol of that solidarity, so I think it's important to be here. The fight never stops, but as long as we are together, we will overcome. We've been here, but we've overcome before. The fight may feel never-ending, but that's why we have our brothers and sisters and siblings to lean on," Booster says.
