Lily Gladstone, who captivated us with their Academy Award-nominated performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, has shared a new update about their nonbinary pronouns.

Yuè Begay (@asdza_tlehonaei on X) wrote in a post:

"As a Two Spirit person, where and when did Lily Gladstone say they were part of our community? Ya'll took some words they said and [white flag emoji] academic'd it to mean Two Spirit. That's not how reclaiming Two Spirit works."

Gladstone's re-shared Begay's post, adding:

"She's absolutely right. I wasn't aware of this but I found what she's talking about and it bothers me too. Two Spirit is not a catch all term for [rainbow emoji]; it's way more specific and it's a term that originates with Diné. I'm not Two Spirit: I use nonbinary pronouns."

As noted by Begay, there was some confusion regarding Gladstone's identity and they/them pronouns during the media cycle surrounding the Oscar campaign for Killers of the Flower Moon.

While some argued that Gladstone's pronouns were related to their Blackfeet and Nez Perce heritage, others interpreted that Gladstone was nonbinary. Well, it appears that Gladstone caught wind of the discourse surrounding their identity and decided to share this X post to clearly state their pronoun use — and we couldn't be happier for them!

Gladstone is currently attached to several upcoming projects such as The Wedding Banquet, Fancy Dance, Under the Bridge, and Jazzy, to name a few.
