Michael Musto, the former Village Voice writer and witty commentator on entertainment, politics, and all things gay, has joined The Advocate and its sister publication Out as a contributor.

Musto will write a weekly column for Out.com, called Musto: The Musical!, debuting Monday. He also will contribute a monthly observational column for The Advocate's print edition.

"At this point in his long and storied career Michael Musto is a national treasure, and I'm delighted that we are able to bring his talent, wit, and profile to Out.com and the Advocate magazine," said Aaron Hicklin, editor in chief of Out.

Musto! The Musical! will be a weekly romp through Broadway, movies, gossip, nightlife, and all other forms of entertainment, featuring pop culture observations and interviews.

For 28 years Musto wrote the popular column La Dolce Musto for The Village Voice, where he broke stories, made stars out of alternative players, and offered groundbreaking opinions. For over five years he also did the breathless blog La Daily Musto, full of interviews, news, and observations. Musto has been named to the Out 100, won journalism and nightlife awards, written four books, and made numerous television appearances throughout the years, including most recently playing himself on the series finale of Smash.

Musto has made other contributions to Out over the years, including 2007's the classic cover story "The Glass Closet."

Trudy Ring is The Advocate’s senior politics editor and copy chief. She has been a reporter and editor for daily newspapers and LGBTQ+ weeklies/monthlies, trade magazines, and reference books. She is a political junkie who thinks even the wonkiest details are fascinating, and she always loves to see political candidates who are groundbreaking in some way. She enjoys writing about other topics as well, including religion (she’s interested in what people believe and why), literature, theater, and film. Trudy is a proud “old movie weirdo” and loves the Hollywood films of the 1930s and ’40s above all others. Other interests include classic rock music (Bruce Springsteen rules!) and history. Oh, and she was a Jeopardy! contestant back in 1998 and won two games. Not up there with Amy Schneider, but Trudy still takes pride in this achievement.
