Rapper and performance artist Mykki Blanco shared something personal with Facebook followers Friday: The musician is HIV-postitive.

"I've been HIV Positive since 2011, my entire career. fuck stigma and hiding in the dark, this is my real life. I'm healthy I've toured the world 3 times but ive been living in the dark, its time to actually be as punk as i say I am," Blanco wrote, and followed it up with a comment, "No more living a lie. HAPPY PRIDE."

Blanco, who first made a splash with the 2012 single "Wavvy," told The Advocatein March that music may no longer be in the performer's future. At that time, Blanco, who sometimes identifies as transgender, planned to become an investigative journalist to report on LGBT issues around the world.

"I am someone who is an entertainer," Blanco said. "I had a passion and it manifested allowing me to have a real following, an audience, and see the world, but I am also a writer and a thinker."

On Friday, Blanco's ambivalence about a future music career was evident in the performer's Facebook comments, as was a concern that the music industry would shun Blanco because of this health news.

"The music industry ain't gonna like i admitted this so if a curator could help me move more into the art world that would be awesome," Blanco wrote in a comment.

In 2014, Blanco mocked critics for repeatedly calling the performer a "gay rapper" by labeling an album Gay Dog Food.
