U.K. newspaper The Guardian may have misidentified him as gay, but Broadway and film actor Patrick Stewart took it in stride and tweeted uproarious messages in response, reports The Huffington Post.
It all started when the English thespian posted a congratulatory note to Ellen Page for her coming-out this past weekend. The Guardian then ran an article about celebrities' responses to Page's announcement. In her report, journalist Jane Czyzselska misidentified Stewart as gay. It was later corrected, but the Poynter Institute was quick to note the rewrite, which was in turn commented on by Stewart himself:
Stewart also retweeted a fan's comment that he may have been confused with frequent costar Ian McKellen or thought to be McKellen's partner:
Nevertheless, as Stewart points out, being mistaken for gay sure beat being mistaken for dead:
And while Stewart isn't gay, he does maintain a close friendship with out actor McKellen. The two currently are starring together on Broadway and have used social media to document their exploration of New York City. Additionally, McKellen officiated Stewart's recent marriage to singer Sunny Ozell.
