The new fashion reality show follows a vintage fashion guru and her Los Angeles boutique.
Love vintage? Addicted to fashion? Then L.A. Frock Stars may be worth watching. The new series follows vintage fashion guru Doris Raymond and her Los Angeles boutique, The Way We Wore. Here are five reasons to watch tonight's premiere at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the Smithsonian Channel.
1. Get schooled in fashion
Each episode is more or less a crash course in vintage fashion, as this true expert cites era, upon label, upon construction, along with the historical context. With each amazing vintage piece, Raymond shares the significance of the designer's history along with some fun facts. Learn what each decade brought for fashion and its prime designers.
2. Go behind the scenes of the vintage world
Raymond shows us how she finds the most incredible rare vintage pieces. Whether she is shuffling through closets or going to auctions and vintage expos, Raymond obviously knows what she wants and how much she will pay for it. Her current collection is worth an estimated $15 to $20 million.
3. You could fall in love
Raymond's fresh approach on fashion, in which she explains it in such a comforting, passionate and non-know-it-all way, makes us want to learn more. You kind of fall in love with her. Raymond's fun, sassy team--Sarah, Shelly Lyn, Jascmeen and Kyle--help clients find the perfect vintage piece.
4. Gay-gay-gay!
Raymond's staff member Kyle is especially adorable. Spoiler alert: he will wear a haute dress or two, at mimimum in the first episode. Of course, several gay stylists like Rihanna's right-hand fashion guru, Mel Ottenberg, visit Raymond's store to find outfits for their clients or just in search of inspiration.
5. Celebrities love vintage too
Dita Von Teese, Kelis, Debi Mazar, and Linda Ramone are regulars at Raymond's shop, while Heidi Klum, Angelina Jolie, Adele, and Victoria Beckham have also shopped at The Way We Wore. Raymond has supplied wardrobes for various film and television productions, including Boardwalk Empire, Titanic, Casino, Glee and Madonna's W.E.
