Are you shivering with anticipation? Three RuPaul's Drag Race stars will do the "Time Warp" in a Texas revival of The Rocky Horror Show.
The racy musical comedy, which opens Thursday and runs through November 1 at San Antonio's historic Woodlawn Theatre, stars season 6 winner Bianca Del Rio as Magenta, season 6 runner-up Courtney Act as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, and regular judge Michelle Visage as Riff Raff.
In Richard O'Brien's iconic rock musical, which premiered in 1973, "a newly engaged couple is stripped of their inhibitions in an unforgettable and shocking odyssey that begins with getting caught in a storm and seeking refuge at the home of a madcap transvestite scientist, Dr. Frank-N-Furter," according to press notes about the production.
"An institution among hundreds of cult fans, these characters are forever embedded in our hearts, but we are going to take you into an entirely new dimension of science fiction in this staging," says Woodlawn Theatre artistic director Greg Hinojosa in a statement. "Think of it as Rocky Horror, the Freak Circus Side Show."
Bianca Del Rio is the drag creation of Roy Haylock, whose theater credits include regional productions of Pageant, Cabaret, and Rent. Australian Idol alum Courtney Act is the drag creation of Shane Jenek, who starred in Rent and tours with his solo show Boys Like Me.
