Just don't hang your holiday dress on a wire hanger!
After a 12-year hiatus, Christmas With the Crawfords willreturn to the New York stage December 10-27 at Abrons Arts Center.
The campy holiday classic stars iconic performance artist Joey Arias, a 2014 Out100 honoree, as Joan Crawford. Project Runway designer Chris March stars as her daughter Christina.
Drag diva Sherry Vine, star of Here TV's She's Living For This, will take on the dual role of Hedda Hopper and Baby Jane Hudson.
Directed by Donna Drake, the cast also includes drag performers Flotilla DeBarge and Vodka Stinger, plus Adam Davidson, Jason B. Schmidt, Brett-Marco Glauser, and Garrit Guadan. Connie Champagne returns to her signature role of Judy Garland.
Created by Richard Winchester, Wayne Buidens and Mark Sargent's Christmas With the Crawfords originally debuted in 1992 at San Francisco's Artfull Circle Theatre. It played New York holiday engagements in 2000, 2001, and 2002 with Arias as Joan Crawford.
"Based on the actual Christmas Eve live radio broadcast of the Crawford family from their Brentwood mansion in the late 1940s, Christmas With the Crawfords is a loving homage to and parody of Hollywood's 'Golden Age' and is filled with appearances of major Tinsel Town icons, such as Judy Garland, Carmen Miranda, Gloria Swanson, and the Andrews Sisters," according to press notes about the production. "Magic, music and mayhem rule the holidays as Mommie Dearest tries to prove to the world she's not all washed up only to have her evening come crashing down in a campy melange of cat fighting and family feuding."
