Caitlyn Jenner gave an emotional speech when accepting her Arthur Ashe Award for courage at ESPYs on Wednesday, and although she had a profound effect on the audience and viewers, she particularly moved many internet users to tweet out their support for trans people.
One of those users happened to be the popular room-rental service Airbnb.
"It takes courage to make a difference in the world," the tweet read, in anticipation for Jenner's appearance at the awards ceremony honoring athletic achievement. "It also takes kindness. Tonight we honor both."
Along with the tweet came the hashtag #Transkind, which is a part of Airbnb's newest, trans-inclusive campaign entitled "Is Mankind?"
Accompanying that supportive tweet was a heartwarming, minute-long commercial that aired during the ESPYs broadcast. The spot features a toddler walking to a door, along with the voice of Angela Bassett, asking viewers "Is man kind? Are we good?"
"Go see," Bassett encourages. "Go look through their windows so you can understand their views, sit at their tables so you can share their tastes. Seep in their beds, so you may know their dreams."
The closing footage features revolving text in front of the word "kind," first reading "man," then "woman," "human," then "trans." (Watch the spot below, via Mashable.
"Transgender personalities are kind of the next group who the media needs to shine a very warm, welcoming and celebrated light on," Airbnb's CMO Jonathan Mildenhall told AdAge in an interview about the new "Mankind" ad series that is "focusing on inclusion and universal human kindness."
"I just wish there were more brands out there who were doing active work and pushing people," he said.
