Just days after the Apple Watch became available to the public, PlanetRomeo announced itself as the official hookup app of the new gadget.
A press release from the Amsterdam-based PlanetRomeo -- formerly GayRomeo -- says it beat out Grindr, Scruff, and all other gay dating apps in the quest to help users streamline hookups even further by cutting out the onerous task of picking up and then unlocking a smartphone to find the nearest booty call.
"PlanetRomeo is a perfect match for the smartwatch," said PlanetRomeo chief product owner Sven Voges in a written statement announcing the app's launch. "Users will easily view profiles, chat and plan dates on the go. We're also exploring cool new features. Imagine being notified as soon as the right guys are nearby or getting turn-by-turn navigation to your next date."
PlanetRomeo's current mobile iOS app will interact with Apple Watch by way of a digital extension to the existing app.
PlanetRomeo bills itself as "one of the world's largest dating and social platforms for the gay/bisexual male and transgender communities, with millions of members worldwide." In addition to conventional hookup features, the company says its app and website also offer news and social media components for its users. The company also indicated that it plans to work closely with the gay community to anticipate the needs of its users.
But at press time, the app's user base is in the U.S. is vastly outstripped by the sheer number of user profiles of Grindr, Scruff, and Gay.com, according to a strictly research-oriented scan of all four apps The Advocate selflessly undertook.
