Rick Santorum was ruthlessly mocked by Stephen Colbert during a segment of last night's episode of The Colbert Report.
The failed Republican presidential candidate turned movie studio CEO sat down with Colbert to promote The Christmas Candle -- the latest film produced by his faith-based studio, EchoLight -- but thehost quickly turned the conversation to the issue of same-sex marriage.
As the two began discussing "riding the rainbow train to Hell Town," Santorum explained that same-sex marriage was the result of heterosexual marriage devolving "into a romantic relationship between two people and that's not what marriage is." He further clarified, "Heterosexuals have lost the definition of marriage and so it's not surprising that other people want to see ... this is what marriage is today and so we should be involved in that."
When Colbert further lampooned Santorum by sarcastically stating he'd "heard some disturbing news that gay people have children" and in "some places they can even adopt," the EchoLight CEO seemed completely oblivious to the fact he was being ridiculed. "Here's what I would say to that. Every child has the right to their natural mother and father," Santorum said. "Every child has a natural mother and father and they have a right to that mother and father to give them what only a mother and only a father can give."
