John Oliver has a few choice words for the Catholic Church -- namely its stance on Ireland's recent history-making nationwide vote in favor of marriage equality.
In a short segment on Sunday's episode of Last Week Tonight on HBO, the snarky late-night host hilariously highlighted the hypocrisy within the church lamenting the fact that Ireland became the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage by popular vote.
"I think that you cannot just talk of a defeat for Christian principles, but of a defeat for humanity," said the Vatican's secretary of state (and second-in-command to the Pope), Pietro Parolin last week in a statement.
"Settle down a little, Catholic Church," said Oliver in response. "Remember, your organization's victories for humanity include crusades, forced adoptions, and running a wildly successful international pedophile exchange program."
"Let's save the defeat for humanity accusation for things that truly deserve it," Oliver concluded.
