The topic of music came up this week on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and how historically, popular songs are used by the campaigns of many presidential hopefuls.
All too often, musicians have to smack a candidate they don't endorse when their songs are used without permission. As host and comedian Stephen Colbert pointed out nn Wednesday night's episode, singer-songwriter Neil Young just recently did it when he denounced Republican candidate Donald Trump's use of his song "Rockin' in the Free World" during the announcement of his presidential candidacy.
In usual fashion, Colbert used this news as a way to poke fun at the presidential race with his own political anthem, one he says is free for any politician (regardless of party) to use. The song "My Kind of America" was the result, and with the help of fellow comedic mind and actor Jack Black, it was absolutely hilarious.
Marriage equality and the fight for gay rights were even mentioned among the many American things the two sang about.
"It's generic enough not to offend anyone, but generic enough to be loved by everyone," he said of the song.
