Los Angeles-based comedian and musician Bill Posley has released three episodes of his new web series, By the Bi, which humorously explores his experiences as a bisexual man in a world that wants easier labels for everyone. The series offers a humorous, earnest, and sometimes painful look at what it means to identify as bisexual and the reactions bisexual people can get from others who don't understand.
In the introduction to the first video, Posley explains, "My name is Bill and I've created a web series about being bisexual. Now, I don't speak for all bisexuals. This is just my personal experience. I made this because I don't actually see this point of view out in the world all that much." He's not wrong. Media portrayals of bisexual men tend to paint them as sneaky, greedy, or confused, so it's nice to be given a new perspective.
In the first episode, Posley comes out to his parents, who wish he would commit to being either straight or gay. "Oh my god, you're going to tell me your lover's name is Aaron, and I'm going to wonder whether that's a man or a woman," worries his mom.
In the second episode, Bill attends an LGBT support group, where he realizes that for all he has in common with the LG and T parts of the acronym, there's a lot he doesn't share.
The third episode, which is co-written by Posley's friend Dodd, centers on Bill's lesbian, gay, and transgender friends staging an intervention to make sure he's really ready to jump into the complicated LGBT world with all its customs and slang.
We look forward to more By the Bi in the future!
