Donald Trump's campaign slogan is "Make America Great Again." But when exactly was America great?
This was the question Comedy Central's The Daily Show posed to attendees of the Republican National Convention. The responses are both hilarious and sad.
"When it was founded," one woman responded in the clip, which was posted online Friday. To which the black correspondent replied, "Except for the slavery stuff."
With each response, The Daily Show reporters point out how many of the time periods mentioned privileged only white men, as they referenced eras when women did not have the right to vote or African-Americans were either enslaved or oppressed.
One man wearing a red, white, and blue bow tie and a Trump sticker on his hat noted that greatness isn't achieved without a "few hiccups along the way. Like they say, nobody made it to the top without breaking a few pieces of china."
The reporter, who is of Asian descent, returned a look of exasperation, to which the attendee replied, "That wasn't an insult, by the way."
